Squids are ten armed cephalpods found in both coastal and ocean waters. Squids range from the size less than 3/4 of an inch to more than 65 feet. A giant squid is the largest invertebrate on on Earth. A squids eyes can be up to 20 inches in diameter. A basic squid has two fins, one mantle, a head, and six arms and two tentacles. Squids prey on mostly small fish; prey is caught by their two tentacles and then pass the fish onto their smaller arms which reach to their mouth. On the end of their tentacles they have sharp rings so they can kill their prey. Squids also create a tight grip on their prey. Squids release a cloud of black ink when they are in danger. The black ink confuses the predator and ten the squid can escape. Some species of squid can change the color of their skin to match their surroundings. Their eyes are located on the side of their face. They prefer to live in salt water and they do not like cold water. Squids are slow swimmers. Squids live in the top part of the ocean. The life expectancy of a squid is very large. Octopi are cousins to squids. Sharp teeth are located inside of a squids mouth.
